The Great Transformation is the classic about the transformation to a market society in the time of the industrial revolution and the rise of capitalism. It was rediscovered in the debates about the unsustainability of dominating economy. The impending transition from a fossil shaped unsustainable development to a postfossil more sustainable development is in the same order of transformation. Therefore, the term great transformation is now in common use for the social-ecological sustainability transformation.
